The PhDs over at google labs have come up with another good idea: Google Transit. This will give you directions on how to get around in a city by public transport only. Currently only for 10 US cities and all of Japan.

Google announced this a long time ago, i think sometime in 2005. I’m still waiting for Google to do NYC. I use http://www.hopstop.com all the time and really like it. But competition is always good!

“Google have come up with another good idea” — no they haven’t, that’s an old idea! There’s lots of public transport route planners, often provided by the relevant authority, I use http://www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner regularly and http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ sometimes.
Sorry, I don’t like to see Google (or anyone, for that matter) get the credit for “innovating” when it’s just copying.
