Man Sneaks Monkey onto JFK-bound Flight

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

A man flying from Peru to New York was able to sneak a monkey with him. How did this clever fiend get past security? By hiding the monkey under his hat. From the article:

Passengers spotted the animal when it climbed out and perched on the man’s ponytail… The monkey - a marmoset - spent the remainder of the flight in the man’s seat. It is unclear whether the unnamed man will face any criminal charges.

The monkey was said to be ‘well behaved’ on the flight.

Human Traffic Flow Patterns to be Improved by Studying Ants

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Future Australian Cities May be Influenced by Ant Architecture. From the article:

Professor Currie said ants moved in an orderly fashion, and never seemed to panic, even when there was danger or congestion.

“Ants will organize their freeways’ so that ants bearing loads are in the middle of the freeway all going one direction, and the ants that are unladen are on both sides of the middle row.

Iraq, The USA, bombs, and the spread of Cholera

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Schneier on Security has an article about the spread of cholera in Iraq. Apparently some Iraqis have made bombs using chlorine, so the USA has made importing the chemical nearly impossible. However, with chlorine water can’t be disinfected from cholera. Thus rules the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Bifaloo has a great short article on how to beat some common carnival games.  Aside from allowing you to get back at those carnies, it’s interesting to see the tricks behind the games and why the direct solution is rarely the correct one.
