According to The Future, the door hinge will go the way of the horse and buggy. All doors will open by sliding into the wall, regardless of how inefficient or space-occupying that may be.
Today, we are one step closer to that reality. A company in Southern California sells what they call a disappearing car door. A snooty English narrator on the company video tells us that, rather than use a door hinge like the hoi polloi, rich people need a door that descends vertically into the base of their car. The technology is really quite impressive and worth a look, despite the cheesiness of the website.
